An interactive simulation
Retinitis pigmentosa
An artistic representation of my experience of retinitis pigmentosa.
Retinitis pigmentosa is an inherited eye condition in which the light-sensing cells of the retina slowly die, usually from the edges of vision inward. Clinical descriptions and simulations describe symptoms of tunnel vision and night blindness. What they rarely describe is what the lost field actually looks like from the inside. This is my attempt at capturing my actual experience.
Caveats
RP varies enormously between people (it is an umbrella term for thousands of different genetic conditions that lead to similar patterns of vision loss); a different person would draw a different picture of their own experience.
The simulation contains continuous rapid flashing at around 9 Hz. If you have photosensitive epilepsy or are sensitive to flickering light, please do not continue.
